Finished Carpe Jugulum

I finished Carpe Jugulum by Terry Pratchett today. IT. WAS. AWESOME. The vampires were amazing, and Granny Weatherwax's plan to take them down was something I never saw coming. Agnes Nitt was one of my favorite new characters, along with Vlad. Although, if I didn't know better, I would say that the whole Vlad/Agnes relationship was a parody of Twilight since Vlad is attracted to and intrigued by Agnes because he can't read Agnes's mind (which, unlike in Twilight, is actually explained in the book and relatively early).

One of my favorite things about this book is Terry Pratchett's ability to make the vampires both funny and completely evil. At one point, the vampires (who can effect people's minds) have everyone standing around, nodding and smiling while the Count tells them about their plan to take over the kingdom. My other favorite part is when the Count is telling everyone that things like fear of religious symbols and bursting into flamings in sunlight and such are all just in their heads and has them all drinking wine. Lacrimosa, his daughter, complains about it, and then get into a discussion in which we learn that rebelling vampire teens give themselves names like "Henry" and "Pam" and one even pretends he's an accountant. Apparently, prep is the vampire version of goth or emo. It was awesome.

Gah! People are bugging me to hurry up so we can watch South Park on the computer so that's all I've got to say about that at the moment, I guess.

>.> Edward's inability to read Bella's mind is explained in the Twilight series, I personally saw no reason for it to be explained in the first book since it does lead to some pretty interesting plot developments (like the Volturi's interest in her in the end of the second book onward). ...>_> You really should read the rest of them sometime if you can get them at a library or something, I know I said I'd give you a rundown of them but I thoroughly suck at summaries xD... so I decided it's better if I don't :/...

Uh anyway... sounds like an interesting book >_> maybe I'll check it out sometime, I kinda stay away from most of the books I see in the 'vampire' section in Barnes & Noble cause I've been burned one too many times (Twilight was a lucky thing, and actually pretty unintentional... I was just stuck at a mall for two hours :/ what the heck else was I gonna do? xD They didn't have an arcade) and generally try to stick to things I know (:D yay for L.J. Smith's re-releases).

...O.o... South Park on the computer? Don't you have a TV? >.> Or looking up older episodes?

Oh, that's right, it was. My bad. Doesn't it have something to do with Bella having a "private mind" or something? (That makes no sense!) I'm personally of the opinion that Edward can't read Bella's thoughts because she doesn't have any. ;) Meh. Maybe I'll read them at some point, but if I did I'd have to read them for the lulz instead of seriously because when I read Twilight as a serious novel, I was filled with raaaaaaaageee... On the other hand, I read part of New Moon to my brother and friend in Barnes and Noble once and couldn't stop laughing...hm.

I don't know if Carpe Jugulum would be in the vampire section, necessarily, because it's part of the Discworld Series (which deals with everything from Death to dragons to witchs and wizards to Christmas parodies, ect). The series doesn't have to be read in order, though; I read The Hogfather and understood it just fine even though I didn't read Soul Music which comes before it. As far as I'm aware, the only two books that have to be read in order are The Color of Magic and The Light Fantastic, and that's because The Light Fantastic picks up where The Color Of Magic left off.

We do, but I only just started watching it recently and I got my brother into it so we've got a lot to catch up on.
